Got the latest gadget in town? Not yet? Then do make your way to the nearest IT store. There’s lots to rave about the new gadget on the block- the Fujitsu FMV-U8240 UMPC!
How can you miss the world’s smallest tablet-convertible UMPC, weighing only 580g and with a thickness of only 26.5mm. The Fujitsu FMV-U8240 is based on new Intel Ultra Mobile Platform 2007. Features of the FMV-U8240 include 5.6 inch screen with 1,024×600px resolution, QWERTY keyboard, 512MB/1GB RAM, Intel A110 800Mhz CPU, 20GB HDD and 8 hour battery life.
“Just who got lucky?”
Not me definitely. Akihabara News spent 3 days with the new gadget and has published the first review of the Fujitsu FMV-U8240. Well, it does look like they like a lot of features but not really excited when compared to the Sony Vaio UX series from the looks and finish point of view, but really impressed with the performance and lot more aspects of the Fujitsu FMV-U8240.
“The market leaders”
Right now the UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) is hot but companies like Toshiba (Libretto 50/70/100) or Sony (Vaio U) have been proposing such products for quite a long time, leading the category. As usual the first versions were pretty expensive until Microsoft decided to turn the UMPC as a “standard”, therefore opening the door to other companies...as a result the choice is wider and from 900 to 2000€ (appx 1200 - 2700$) most of us can find something to match their needs.
“Moolah?”
Availability is quoted as Mid-June for the XP Version in Japan only with a rollout of Vista versions and other territories after that. July and August are usually bad times to launch a product so perhaps we’ll see something in September in north America and Europe.
